Characterisation of boundary layer transition over a low Reynolds number rotor

چکیده
An experimental investigation on the flow topology over a rotor operating at low Reynolds numbers is presented. The feasibility of laminar to turbulent transition experiments small rotors demonstrated. Phase-locked infrared thermography coupled with simultaneous force and torque measurements were used study three bladed NACA0012 aerofoil section set uniform angle incidence 10°. Boundary layer was forced using two-dimensional (2D) three-dimensional (3D) roughness elements, placed approximately 5% 28% blades chord. In 3D configurations once critical attained streaks downstream developed into fully wedges. For current configuration, it found that state boundary can significantly affect its performance, non-optimal forcing generally resulting in loss performance when compared smooth reference case.

Interactions within the turbulent boundary layer at high Reynolds number
Simultaneous streamwise velocity measurements across the vertical direction obtained in the atmospheric surface layer (Reτ 5 × 10) under near thermally neutral conditions are used to outline and quantify interactions between the scales of turbulence, from the very-large-scale motions to the dissipative scales. Results from conditioned spectra, joint probability density functions and conditional...
متن کاملObservations on High Reynolds Number Turbulent Boundary Layer Measurements
An experimental study that examines spatial resolution effects on the measured streamwise velocity component is presented. Normal hot-wire measurements for mean flow velocity profiles, streamwise turbulence intensity profiles in addition to their respective spectra at different levels within the turbulent boundary layers will be presented. Measurements were carried out at Reynolds number based ...
متن کاملBoundary Layer Trips on Airfoils at Low Reynolds Numbers
Three categories of boundary layer trips (single 2-D plain. multiple 2-D plain, and 3-D trips) were tested on the l\106-13-128, E374, and SD7037 airfoils over t he Reynolds numbers of 100,000 to 300,000. Flow visualization and drag data were acquired for a number of trip heights and locations. To facilitate comparisons between airfoils, t rips were located relative to untripped laminar separati...
متن کاملWhat is the Reynolds number of the Reynolds ’ Layer ? †
Several authors have now suggested that some interstellar clouds above the plane of the Galaxy are interacting with the Reynolds’ layer, the warm ionized gas extending well above (H ∼= 910 pc) the Galactic plane (Reynolds 1993). Characterizing the interaction between these clouds and their surroundings should be useful in understanding one source of interstellar turbulence: vertical shear flows...
